What is a Handpoke Tattoo?

Handpoke (A.K.A Stick and Poke) is a method of permanent tattooing that is done manually. That is to say, I do not use any electric motor to power the needle movement. I use a Steril Tattoo needle insert tattoo ink into the skin one dot at a time. Think of it as the pointillism version of tattooing rather than painting.

With handpoke, you can get a different look to your tattoo. Sometime you can see the individual dots and many people appreciate the folk-style that some handpoke can offer. Handpoke is a traditional technique that offers a unique and intimate experience.

How does Handpoke heal?

All tattoos heal differently depending on your aftercare routine. However, most people agree that handpoke heals much quicker and easier than machine tattoos due the more gentle application. Handpoke tattoo can be less traumatic to the skin and often uses light shading and line-work to achieve depth and contrast. Again, this all depends on the tattoo artist you choose to work with and their style. The majority of my clients express surprise and glee over how quickly and easily their tattoos from me heal!

What is your experience?

I have been practicing tattoo for over 7 years. I started tattooing myself and close friends and it just kept growing! What started as a little side hustle has flourished into a full-time biz. It has been so amazing to watch my tattoo community increase over the years and now I have little tattoos walking around all over the world. Thank you for supporting my business! It makes me so happy to create a tattoo that gives my client a sense of autonomy and power in their skin. Tattoo can be a very cathartic process and a way to bring ownership and beauty back into your physical body.

Where are you located?

I am currently based is Los Angeles, CA. I make several annual trips to Santa fe, Albuquerque, Denver, the Bay area and Portland all for tattoo.

How should I prepare for my appointment?

Gently exfoliate and moisturize the areas you plan to get your tattoo during the week leading up to your appointment. Avoid sunburn, rash, dry skin, and irritation, as this can affect the application process and how well your tattoo heals. Stay hydrated and get a good night’s sleep the night before your appointment. Additional instructions provided in appointment confirmation email.

How do I book with you?

I open my books near the beginning of every month and book for that month. Send an inquiry and I will respond with a link to choose your appointment time and pay a deposit. I require a $100 deposit for every tattoo, unless otherwise specified. This deposit can be transferred for a rescheduling but cannot be refunded. You can inquire about a tattoo at anytime and I will respond as quickly as possible with upcoming booking info.
